Our Story

How We Began

Our journey began with a simple prayer: to create a place where people from all nations could encounter Christ and experience authentic fellowship. With God’s leading, what started as informal gatherings soon became a thriving church family, united by our love for Jesus and our mission to share His hope. The English Group at Gdańsk SDA Church began in 2018 as a small Sabbath School class of six members from Poland, Lithuania, Malawi, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe. The group would gather every Sabbath in one corner of the church to discuss the Sabbath School lesson in English. Soon, the group began to grow when students from Kenya, Spain, Zimbabwe joined group. With the support of the Polish church, two dedicated elders were assigned to guide and nurture this new and rapidly developing fellowship. Sabbath after Sabbath, lessons were held in English, and translation was provided for the sermon. As the group matured, it began to organize full English services once a month, held every third Sabbath at 2:00 p.m. By 2019, the group had about 10 consistent members and welcomed new friends from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Tahiti. During the COVID-19 pandemic, physical meetings were not possible, but the group stayed connected through online gatherings, sometimes joining with other English groups such as the one in Poznań. Despite this, the group faced a temporary decline in numbers. In 2021, growth resumed as new students from Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Ethiopia, Egypt, and Ghana joined the fellowship. By 2022, the group had grown to about 20 members from diverse backgrounds. In 2023, a dedicated room was provided for regular English services every Sabbath, marking a new chapter in the group’s development. Today, in 2025, the English Group has around 30 regular members and continues to grow. The fellowship has become vibrant, mission-focused, and fully engaged in church life. Its activities now include hosting camps, women’s ministries programs, and various community outreach initiatives. Above all, the group remains united in sharing the love of God with the community in Gdańsk and beyond.
